Legendary UK drag queen Maisie Trollette has sadly passed away #RIP

 

Trollette, birth name David Raven, died on 12 March at their home in Brighton. at the age of 91.  

Known as the UK’s oldest drag queen and one of the world’s longest-working drag performers, Trollette began her career in the 1960s as part of the duo The Trollettes with Jimmy Court, earning recognition at iconic venues like The Black Cap in Camden and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in London.  

After moving to Brighton, Trollette became a staple of the local drag scene and a regular fixture at Brighton Pride since its inception in 1973.  

Her trailblazing career, philanthropy, and contributions to the drag community were spotlighted in the 2022 documentary Maisie, available to stream on Prime Video.  

News of Trollette’s passing prompted tributes from venues like the Royal Vauxhall Tavern and Two Brewers, as well as drag legends such as Myra Dubois, La Voix and Michael Marouli.  

In a heartfelt post, accompanied by backstage photos from an event at Legends Brighton, La Voix praised Trollette as a “cabaret legend” and a “sensational man”, saying, “Thanks for the love, the laughs, and the lessons. I’ll miss you.”

We extend our deepest condolences to Maisie Trollette’s friends and family. Rest in peace, Maisie, and thank you for your lasting impact on British cultural history.
