We are loving this and celebrating this: The family drama “The Mattachine Family” has gone into production and has all kinds of out queer performers in it including Nico Tortorella (Younger), Juan Pablo Di Pace (Fuller House), Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Hacks), and Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek).
Nico confirmed the news on Instagram saying in a post: “This is the most important project I’ve been a part of to date. Can’t wait to share this with y’all,” added the 33-year-old.
Juan, who came out publicly as gay in 2019, added in an Instagram statement: “Beyond excited to be a part of this beautiful film.” The 42-year-old furthermore added: “An important piece of cinema coming your way.”
Acclaimed video and commercial director Andy Vallentine makes his feature directorial debut from a screenplay by his husband Danny Vallentine, based on a story by the pair.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes: Jake Choi (Single Parents), Annie Funke (This is Us), Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse) and Cloie Wyatt Taylor (Shameless).
The Mattachine Family focuses on Thomas (Tortorella) and Oscar (Di Pace), a couple very much in love. But they find, after their first foster child returns to his birth mother, that they have different ideas about what it means to make a family.
