Last night, Thursday, February the 12th organizer Bram Bierkens presented us the 12 contestants for the Mister Gay Flanders election 2015. (Quick reminder: Belgium is bilingual French/Dutch and the election is held in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium called Flanders, therefor the name of the contest is Mister Gay Flanders) The event took place at a stunning new location called the Red Star Line Museum in Antwerp. As this is already the third edition of the Mister Gay Flanders election, it’s amazing to see the how this contest is evolving.
After a warm welcome by Bram Bierkens and his partner Ivan Denis when we arrived, we merged ourselves amongst the big crowd. Many photographers, showqueens, press, straight allies and yours truly were excited to know who the twelve candidates were and who would follow up current title holder Willem Joris. Let the show begin!!!
By groups of four, each contestant got the change to present himself towards the public on stage. Telling us what they stand for and what they hope to achieve with this contest. A nervous experience we can imagine, but they all did very well!
The twelve contestants who are selected are: Bart Bruyninckx (24yrs), Joachim Cox (19yrs), Dylan De Vroe (21yrs), Stijn Geeroms (26yrs), Wilbert Lacroes (33yrs), Marco Nash (27yrs), Tom Pollaris (21yrs), Thierry Putzeys (26yrs), Tony Van Aelst (20yrs), Joël Van Buggenhout (28yrs), Jens Van Maele (24yrs) and Skelte Willems (20yrs).
Of course current Mister Gay Flanders 2014 Willem Joris was there as well, telling us what the organization of MGF already achieved together with him in the last year. Making being gay less a taboo in the sport world. He presented us the Mister Gay Flanders football, which can be bought as a fundraiser.
And of course don’t forget last year’s first runner up Jordy De Smedt! As you will be hearing a lot of him this summer! Jordy de Smedt is going to represent Belgium at the Mister Gay World 2015 election in Cape Town/South Africa and is aiming to get at least in the top 5 to put small country Belgium on the map. So good luck to him as well!
Back to this year’s election and its contestants. Pink in our Lives got the change to ask each 12 of the contestants 5 cheeky questions. Curious about this Q&A? We’ll be introducing them to you one by one in the following weeks, so Like and Follow our page on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube!!!
