An irreverent, queer as hell, Indigenous comedy series All My Friends Are Racist premiered on the 24th of August.
The series was filmed around Brisbane, including at Brisbane Powerhouse and New Farm Park, earlier this year. The comedy series follows twenty-somethings Casey (Davey Thompson) and Belle (Tuuli Narkle), who live together in the city. He’s a gay Aboriginal influencer and she’s an Aboriginal lawyer.
The successful best friends also have a private “burn book” wall featuring all their friends listed as racists. When their secret discovered, they’re suddenly cancelled themselves and thrown out of their friendship group. Belle thinks it’s the end of their social life, but Casey believes it’s an opportunity. The pair go on to make decisions about who and what they’re willing to lose.
An early review of the five-episode series has promised “the queerest, most outrageous thing you’ll see on TV this week”. The irreverent series also features “a very sloppy rimming scene that gives [HBO series] “The White Lotus” a run for its money.”
Indigenous talent Enoch Mailangi is the creator and writer of All My Friends Are Racist.
“I hope this series shows the liberating power young queer people of colour can have when they decide to sleep in, start drama, and more importantly stuff-up while trying to figure out who they are,” Mailangi said. “The experience I’ve received seeing this story go from script to screen has been beyond.”
