โ€˜Recovering bigotโ€™ says sorry to LGBTQ+ community with free hugs at Pride march! #PinkPress #PinkInOurLives

A โ€œrecovering bigotโ€ has been praised for giving out free hugs at a Pride parade.

The man was seen at Denverโ€™s Pride in Colorado in June, wearing a rainbow garland and holding a sign that read, โ€œRecovering bigot. I am sorry. Free hugs.โ€

A TikTok user captured several hugs between him and other Pride-goers.

โ€œTo own up to your discriminatory beliefs and say: โ€˜I hear you, I see you, and Iโ€™m sorryโ€™, is top tier. Everyone could learn something here,โ€ the TikTok user said.

Several other people added that they had also previously held anti-LGBTQ+ views, and that the manโ€™s show of support was inspiring, with one saying: โ€œWelcome to the good side, sir.โ€

Another said: โ€œI was raised ultra-conservative and didnโ€™t start having my own views and letting myself see more than one side until about a decade agoโ€ฆ Iโ€™m sobbing.โ€

A photo of the manโ€™s sign made it on to Twitter, where one user explained that Pride is a โ€œperfect opportunity [to] make amendsโ€.
