VIENNA PRIDE 2023
Last weekend we visited Vienna Pride in Wien, Austria. Our first time there and we did not know exactly what to expect. We knew it is a large Pride and that Vienna has a great LGBTQIA following and allies.
The city did not disappoint us at all. Throughout the big city lots of buildings and stores had rainbow flags, rainbow stairs or something showing their support for the Pride.
Public transports like subways, trams or buses showed inside and outside their true colors. On the day of the Parade, even the signage on their platforms showed the text “Ride With Pride”!
Traffic lights had their same-sex love signals in red and green. It felt the Pride took over the city during this period and felt heartwarming.
The parade on Saturday was held around the city starting from the Cityhall and ending there as well. After the Parade came on the squares lots of people together to support and celebrate. Lots of straight allies were connecting with the LGBTQIA+ Community.
On the square and in the parc people assembled to enjoy the music, watching performances and listenig to speeches of politicians and Conchita Wurst. This took place till around 23.00 and than the crowd went to bars, clubs and Pride afterparties like “Circus” and “Why Not PrideNight”.
Besides the Pride Vienna is also a great place to visit. Off course THE city of Sissi, but also one of big green parcs, little islands, the great riverside Donau, mountains and lots of museums. It is a clean and very active city. Lots of places to do sports on land and in the water. Connecting great old architecture with new ones. Too much too see and visit in only the four days that we were there.
The gay scene is like in any other city with some bars, clubs and a gay store. People are very friendly and it feels open-minded towards our community. If you get the chance to do a Pride outside your own country, put Vienna on your bucket list to visit. You won’t regret it.
