RENTED by Robert Sepúlveda Jr.
The year 2016 is over and 2017 is here to stay. Did you buy your calendar already?. Somewhere to write down the next party, your sexy date or gaycation or just your new fitness schedule!!! PINK IN OUR LIVES will show each day in January a new calendar that you could use at home to hang in your room, toilet or bathroom. Most of them give their proceeds to a good cause, so your family won’t think you are just a horny little devil. Maybe that’s why you should have more than one new calendar hanging around.
Selling Himself: The star of last summer’s Finding Prince Charming — a gay version of The Bachelor — Robert Sepúlveda Jr made headlines this summer when it was revealed that he’d previously enjoyed a prolific career as a Rentboy and now he comes up with a Hustler-Themed Calendar.
This calendar is described as a photo essay which gives viewers a glimpse into the “harsh reality many sex workers face,” a reality Sepulveda says he also had to endure in order to survive. “I do not regret taking control of my life at a time when my life had no control and no security. I chose to do what I thought was best for me, to support myself, to make it and for that I have no regrets. I answer to me, my body is mine, and I take ownership of my body and do with it as I see fit. I see my past, the good and the ugly as lessons, even being raped at age 19 – forced to have sex or not get home safely, as a lesson – gifts from god that have taught me so much and have made me the fighter I am today. We live in a sex obsessed culture, that places priority on looks; breasts, asses, the body, sex appeal, but when it comes to facing, and confronting the subject, it’s taboo, an off limits topic and even worse if you dare to profit from what we hold in such high regard, profit from the very thing we sell our children in magazines and on TV, profit from beauty.”
While this little scandal succeeded in giving the show some extra publicity, Sepulveda acted displeased at the revelations, sending “cease and desist” orders via his lawyer to any website that bothered to publish the abundant evidence of his hustling days. Unfortunately the past came out anyway with lots of naked proof (And we’re not sad about it), so Sepulveda is now “bringing awareness to sex workers” by recreating his past in a limited-edition calendar that costs almost $50.
Robert posed himself for this sex work-themed calendar to raise money for and awareness of the sex industry. He says he wants the calendar to be “a conversation piece” that will shed light on “the plight of sex workers”. All proceeds are going to The Sex Workers Project.
The Sex Workers Project provides client-centered legal and social services to individuals who engage in sex work, regardless of whether they do so by choice, circumstance, or coercion. One of the first programs in the nation to assist survivors of human trafficking, the Sex Workers Project has pioneered an approach to service grounded in human rights, harm reduction and in the real life experiences of their clients. www.sexworkersproject.org
