After ruling and demanding the Flemish Showqueen catwalk for 15 years, former Miss Travestie Belgium and leading lady from Les Femmes Unique Kyara Mystica Stratton ended her fabulous and flaming career. For some of us this pre-pension came unexpected, like swallowing a Xanax on your empty stomach. Still the inner circle new noticed a slow declining. And so her last steps on stage was on the 6th of November as Kyara and in that same week a last call for auntie Esther, were a fact!
On the 12th of November Pink Smoke flew through the chimney as a start of the HUGE auction of the complete Mystica walking Closet. Time for a farewell interview with this artist and because we can’t 15 years in a nutshell (and Kyara had a lot to share with our readers) we have put this interview in two parts. Our showqueen reporter Christiaan was send out to talk to this queen and find out here all the juicy details, fun, candid and heartfelt answers like how we know Kyara AKA Kenny De Pril.
Darling Kyara, a few weeks ago I approached you on your final show at LFU for a exclusive interview on LGTB page Pink In Our Lives and you agreed immediately.
“Honey thank YOU! It does me great pleasure to see that there is interest in my long career”.
Who was Kyara Mystica Stratton?
“Oh my….that’s a VERY long story. But, let me think.
A close friend of mine Bjorn convinced me of dressing up like a woman for carnival.
He took care for the makeup, dress, wig and shoes. Eventually being very surprised of looking this fabulous! The name…well Bjorn was Sarah Mystica, so had to be a Mystica.
Friends in those day was a hype on television, so it became Monica Mystica.
Carnival was fab, and a few weeks later a mutual friend asked me to dress up again as guest at a surprise party. My first pay check was a bottle of Vodka, lol! But that night was the official birth of the name Kyara Mystica, while driving to this party. (Since I didn’t like Monica.)
Looking back at it was very amateurish, but a HUGE success! And the invitations came slowly rolling in and also my enjoyment of dressing up being Kyara. Being a perfectionist, that’s not only Kyara I am in my other life also….searched on the internet tutorials how to improve my trade, and because decided at that time wanted to put my heels between the dragqueen doors, visited festivities and shows. Exploring the field so as it were. Mystica on a Mission”!
Kyara tells further: “2006 came the shine of Showqueen light on me, on meeting Miss Dragqueen Pageant organization Miss Michelle. She invited me on attending this pageant. Nowadays MDQ is a huge thing in Dragqueen world, those days new talents started their careers and was great platform to explore and show yourself! Inexperienced as I was rolled into it and won my second runner up title. (Being very proud!) Making that night a statement and profiling myself.
Fun thing was after THAT night, my phone kept ringing from the already stated Queens, for working with me. Gave me a huge boost!
On this pageant was Lady Bambilicous, who lived in the same province and a friendship was born!
Doing shows together in local bars and pubs a lovely time. In those days at a performance, was Miss Moonlight searching for new Queens to start a new group, the still named Les Femmes Unique. Aiming her arrows on Miss Bambi, and not me necessary”.
She had the rethink herself on my Queen-ism and aura…but that’s how the story went…..Due to certain festivities we met again and got on stage with the three of us. A friendship was born”.
Kyara Mystica was she a Showqueen or a Transvestite?
“Oh my….Kyara was always op and top Showqueen, I certainly took care of THAT!
Working very hard being beautiful, fabulous make up, quality gowns etc….Right on the spot, so to say! Kyara never went out on just for being dressed up, a stagequeen that’s where she shined.
My audience, my fans, the light, the stage…she lived on it”!
Were there up and downs in your career darling?
“Well….I always needed to work hard, VERY hard to stand there.
Feeling lucky on being surrounded by wonderful friends, family and relatives.
Giving up, that was a NO GO for Kyara.
I never gave up to work hard on achieving what was mine and wanted to get.
Remembering after Miss Dragqueen Belgium 2009, a few months later my father died.
But how difficult it was, and it was…..the show must go on.
Also my health problems in the last years, the stage was MINE”!
What was the biggest Quality of Kyara and in what are Kyara and Kenny the same?
“That’s a tough one, well….Kyara above all has more guts to stand on the stage …sober.
Kenny needs a drink for sure. Ha ha!
I don’t think there are much differences.
Kyara has much bigger mouth and NEEDS the spotlights, she loves it”.
During the long career and many years on stage, you’ve must have build friendships.
Would you love to share some with us dear?
“Where shall I start…I treasure many amazing friendships during my career.
Ones that I’ll treasure for the rest of my LIFE! Eternal bounds.
Miss Moonlight, two hearts one Soul….oh yes. On stage and beside, for fun and serious matters..always a time and place.
Vanessa Van Cartier, the heiress who’ll replace me in Les Femmes Unique.
A wonderful woman with golden heart, who made an enormous evolution during her years. As woman and artist”!
“You know…..everybody who dares to take her first steps on the stage is someone who comes to mind, Miss Moonlight, Vanessa Van Cartier, but also Baby V. It is not something obvious to enter a stage! And have the heart on the right place, those are the friends that I’ve made.
Work your trade and talent, then you’re an artist that I look up to”.
“Every medal has a other side….flip of the coin. The shade.
There were moments in my career thinking…”really Queen..?”
So called friends who wanted to be “friends” as recognition, because it was Kyara on the stage.
Of course, I had my disappointments. Yes…BIG disappointments.
Egoism, envy, jalousie, greed….there is one person for sure that I was very disappointed about and NEVER ever would have expected this from.
No …not going to call names, but that disappointment really struck me by lightning.
Honey there is egoism….but for that kind of egoism….the word still needs to be created.
But frankly, I need to thank them for entering my life.
Making me stronger and wiser, yes!
So with my biggest gratitude, THANK YOU BITCHES…”!!!!
Kyara darling, would you love to share some memorable moments in your career?
“Hahaha most of them are NOT for publication…..hahahahaha! But, okay I’ll share a few.
The feeling of being on TOP of the Pops while arriving in full armer on the sunniest of days with Les Femmes Unique at Middelkerke, on the playa. Hundreds of people, screaming for us…great right! Being a Star!!!!
Then….after the second part from our show, the Tsunami landed on us, and the sky broke OPEN!!!
OMG! Wigs, gowns, feathers, destroyed from the water.
I was wet…..must say haven’t been that wet after this moment, EVER again…lol.
For the record, there are nicer ways to get wet right. Hahahaha”!
(Inside joke…ahum.)
“Okay and another one…New years Eve…huge audience.
While entering the stage in my gracious way, and falling flat on my belly, and….with no possibility could get up on my heels again. The head piece was SO heavy, no option!”
In part two Kyara will tell about her highlights, the choice of her name and family and some quick remarks about hot topics!!! Don’t miss it!!! and also HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KYARA AKA KENNY today!!! CONGRATULATIONS
