2017 has begun already which also makes it time again for the search of a new Mister Gay Belgium. 
The twelve contestants for 2017 are known for the public and introduced at the Press Event in February. They are eager to take over the reign and title of Mister Gay Belgium 2016 Raf Van Puymbroeck. They have their own message to bring out to the world and will show why they should be named as Mister Gay Belgium 2017 at the 27th of May in Antwerp. Time again like every year for PINK IN OUR LIVES to put all candidates separately in the spotlight and give a taste of who they are. We have met them all and they are a fine and friendly group of guys and the tenth candidate of this series of interviews will be Gaëtan De Vos.
Gaëtan De Vos is 24 years old, Running an independent Children’s Daycare and is living in Ursel (East- Flanders). He did his coming out in 2013 and his project is about “Gender Diverse education”.
What is the reason you joined this election of Mister Gay Belgium?
“I want with the help of this organization to expand the way how my work is done at my children’s daycare. To push other organizations to work this way too, because I feel that with the gender diverse education there will be a better society.”
To whom did you do your first coming out and how?
“To my best girlfriend, who I know from school when I was around 14 years old. I just told her: “I am Gay”. Her reaction was that she and many others already saw it coming.”
What does the Gay Pride mean for you and do we still need such a parade these days?
“I find Gay Pride amazing. Every year I have each time lots of fun at the Pride. I feel this is our major big holiday. We can let us all go without consequences. Hopefully we can say this in the future every day.”
What features/personality does your ideal man has to have and like which hunk does he have to look like?
“Somebody who is independent, respectful to others, knowing what he wants, don’t letting his head hanging down, fighting for their own, wanting to achieve something and does this all without insecurity and with great confidence. If he has this all with the looks of Zac Efron, then I am sold!!! ;o).”
What advice would you give to young gays that did not come out of the closet yet?
“For someone who has never had problems with coming out of the closet, I can only say “doing it seems bigger than it actually is”. I think nobody should force you to come out of the closet. The person needs to do this when they feel it is right for themselves. And when you do…. a big weight falls of your shoulder. A redemption of lots of stress and worries.”
