2017 has begun already which also makes it time again for the search of a new Mister Gay Belgium. The twelve contestants for 2017 are known for the public and introduced at the Press Event in February. They are eager to take over the reign and title of Mister Gay Belgium 2016 Raf Van Puymbroeck. They have their own message to bring out to the world and will show why they should be named as Mister Gay Belgium 2017 at the 27th of May in Antwerp. Time again like every year for PINK IN OUR LIVES to put all candidates separately in the spotlight and give a taste of who they are. We have met them all and they are a fine and friendly group of guys and the tenth candidate of this series of interviews will be Ignace de Wolf.
Ignace de Wolf is 20 years old, Studying Ergo Therapy and is living in Genk. He did his coming out in 2013 and his project is about “Bullying towards LGBT youth”.
What is the reason you joined this election of Mister Gay Belgium?
“I participate for Mister Gay Belgium 2017, because I find it a great initiative. It gives homosexual guys a chance to become an ambassador for the LGBT community and to bring forward their own personal theme. The fact the Mister Gay Belgium isn’t only a beauty contest, but also will look at the story and content of each candidate, I find this a strong signal to our society.”
To whom did you do your first coming out and how?
“I told it first to my best friends, they were the closest to me and I felt the most confident with them. When I made the decision for myself that it was time to come out of the closet, I didn’t doubt myself anymore. I told every friend separately that I liked boys. It was time to be myself and each friend handled it in their own fantastic way. They accepted me completely as the person who I am and I am still very grateful for that.”
What does the Gay Pride mean for you and do we still need such a parade these days?
“Gay Pride means for me to be totally yourself, coming up for your right and to have a great time with the LGBT community. I have never yet experienced a Gay Pride, but it has been definitely on my “to do-“list (Last Saturday he did his first Belgian Pride in Brussel – from editor) These days it is necessary to have initiatives like organizing Gay Prides. It is important to stand up for yourself and to be proud of who you are.”
What features/personality does your ideal man has to have and like which hunk does he have to look like?
“I don’t have a special type of guy that I am attracted to. For me is important that he takes good care of himself and be well-presented. Looks don’t say everything, being faithful and clear communication are for me very essential in a relationship. I won’t say no to a man like Belgian actor Louis Talpe.”
What advice would you give to young gays that did not come out of the closet yet?
“Come out of the closet when you feel good about it, never let anyone hold you against or push you out of the closet. This is a choice only you can make.”
