Saturday the 25th of February was like every year at the end of February for the 17th time the biggest Travestie Election in Belgium, Miss Travestie Belgian 2017, organized by Miss Michele and her ladies of Les Folles De Gand!!!
Pink In our Lives was in da house off course with photographer (and my man) René Emmerink, Show Queen reporter Christiaan D’Hooghe and Dragqueen Lola McQueen. Like the last few years Lola gives her honest opinion about the election and candidates for us. We were with 12 to represent 54 Antwerp, Cargo Club and Pink In Our lives alltogether at table number 2 in the front, so we had a great view at the candidates and jury. And this is how Lola witnessed the evening in her magnificent red dress of designer Dirk Vervoort:
“For me personally was this one of the most important days in the dragqueen/travestie world in Belgium”, says Lola. “because this is the moment for me to show who I am today and 3 years ago I did this as look-a-like Lady Gaga, last year a tribute to the late David Bowie and this year to present the grand lady Lola McQueen herself. This is the moment to shine and be seen!!!
And boy did these candidates do that too!!! Mystique Royale kicked of the election and for the first round called “SHOW YOURSELF” she did it gracefully as “Lady Liberty”! What also became her statement throughout the evening with the message in all her numbers to have respect for each other and that every form or shape of Dragqueen, Travestie or Showqueen can be beautiful in her own way!
2nd and the eldest candidate was Jinxy Bling?…… She came up in an elegant pink dress, but that was all. I was a little bit disappointed in the simplicity. For this election it can be more extravagant for me.…
Mira Rubia entered the stage as third and this candidate had never been, outside the press conference a couple of months ago, on stage to perform. She came up with a beautiful blue cape, which she could take off and underneath was a beautiful skin toned dress with gorgeous blue feathers and other elements.
Starina came up as fourth and as you could see she has participated before in this election (third time I think). She was not nervous and walked relaxed on the catwalk as a gracious venetian queen. She had a gorgeous latex gown designed, that she could take off and underneath an amazing golden dress, which showed she was going for the title and crown.
Miss Stephany was the last one to enter the stage. She was tipped as favorite to win this election and she came up as some like a queen out of a fairytale….Her wig was made by one of the best hairwig makers from Belgium; Philippe Michiels. It was inspired on the horn of an unicorn and she graced the stage in a gorgeous costume. People became euforic, because in real life you can never see an unicorn.
With the presentation round the candidates got the chance to tell the audience more about themselves and what they represent. Mira Rubia was the only one who spoke in two languages (Dutch/English) to the audience. I still think it is sad that no one would speak both languages of our country on stage? You could at least speak some sentences in French, even though there are almost no French speaking guests in the room. First runner-up Mira Mirage a few years ago is the only one who spoke FOUR languages to represent herself that evening as I can recall. That is how it should be done. Starina did her usual presentation speech like she has done before. A missed opportunity, because she speaks very beautiful and well-spoken. Stephany came up with a washing machine on stage (For the people who don’t know her, she collects washing machines) and made a quick funny and pleasant presentation speech.
Then it was time for Miss Michelle to announce the current Miss Travestie Belgian 2016 on stage. Dina Delvaux brought a beautiful number of Whitney Houston, “one moment in time” and showed what we all could expect this evening. After that Miss Michele presented the jury to the audience with John Gravemaker (wigmaker from Amsterdam), Peter Fargo ( musician, illusionist and singer), Axana Ceulemans (Choreographer and singer), Cesar Casier (Topmodel), Dina Delvaux (Miss Travestie Belgian 2016), Dany Boa (Dragqueen from Wallonia with her own Showtemple) and Dille (Dragqueen from Ghent)”.
Then the show starts happening with Mystique Royale and she brought a well-known song in the LGBT community: Euphoria from Loreen. She did an excellent performance, the only unfortunate thing is she worn a colored bra underneath a see-through costume. Maybe it is better to stitch breasts in your costume, which makes sure you don’t have to wear a bra underneath……
Second candidate Jinxy Bling brought the uptempo song Sax from Fleur East. Lots of fun attributes and in a party mood dance team made sure that the show got to a higher level. They all seem to have a good time on stage and I loved it. The only unfortunate thing is that Jinxy herself got lost sometimes between her dancers.
Mira Rubia was the third one on stage and brought a medley of famous Belgian girl group K3, which was a huge risk because their choreographer Axana Ceulemans was one of the judges. The décor was amazing with a fun act, great dancers and an almost naked hunk. You could tell she had put a lot of money and time in it.
Number four Miss Starina brought a nice Latin number which made the temperatures rise in the building, which always makes us thirsty. Bring on the champagne honey!!!
Last but not least Miss Stephany gave us a fun song of Bette Midler, very rock and roll with high lifts and tricks! The very first standing ovation became a fact, because with no decor pieces or attributes, she gave a great performance which is also very important.
Next up was a small break where the candidates can prepare themselves for their Bathing suite runway walk, where everybody is looking if they are tucked good or not…. For us the ideal moment to mingle, toilet, taking pictures with other guests and queens or smoking a cigarette outside.
Because this was a great night with lots of show and entertainment there will be a part two of this review with more great pics and videos. So cumming up more!!! Watch out for it here on PINK IN OUR LIVES and see on our page on Facebook more fabulous and amazing hot pictures.
