2017 has begun already which also makes it time again for the search of a new Mister Gay Belgium. The twelve contestants for 2017 are known for the public and introduced at the Press Event in February. They are eager to take over the reign and title of Mister Gay Belgium 2016 Raf Van Puymbroeck. They have their own message to bring out to the world and will show why they should be named as Mister Gay Belgium 2017 at the 27th of May in Antwerp. Time again like every year for PINK IN OUR LIVES to put all candidates separately in the spotlight and give a taste of who they are. We have met them all and they are a fine and friendly group of guys and the sixth candidate of this series of interviews will be Sasha de Swert.
Sasha de Swert is 22 years old, Sales Advisor and is living in Hoboken, Antwerp. He did his coming out in 2007 and
his project is about βDomestic violence as coming out blockerβ.
What is the reason you joined this election of Mister Gay Belgium?
βI participate in the Mister Gay Belgium election 2017, because I want to be supportive and a confidant to all the people who can connect with my theme, but also outside it. And also because this is an unique experience which can teach me a lot and will stick with me for many years β.
To whom did you do your first coming out and how?
βTo my very best woman friend. My family knew it later and my mother was the last person to know it.β
What does the Gay Pride mean for you and do we still need such a parade these days?
βGay Pride is for me a time where everybody can be who he or she is. It is a relief that I can walk hand in hand with my boyfriend during the Gay Pride, without be watched and judged. That is also the reason that the Pride is still necessary. As long as there is news about gaybashing, children getting thrown out of there family homes because of their sexual preference, people looking at us with disgust of who we are, the Pride is DEFINITELY important and needed.β
What features/personality does your ideal man has to have and like which hunk does he have to look like?
βMy ideal man? He looks like my boyfriend, the handsomest guy for me.β
What advice would you give to young gays that did not come out of the closet yet?
βSPEAK! Talk with someone in confidence, when you have difficulties being yourself. There is nothing wrong with being different. And you are not alone. But most importantly, take your time. If you donβt feel up to it, donβt force it. When you feel strong enough, and you find a good time to come out, then you can take that step.β
