Steps are a British dance-pop group consisting of Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian “H” Watkins. Their music has a 1990s dance-pop sound. Their name was based on a marketing premise: that each of their music videos were to be choreographed, and the dance steps were included in the sleeve with most of their singles.
Steps is celebrating their start 20 years ago with a new album and tour, but with their same catchy songs and classic dance routines. Their first single of the new album that is out now is called “scared of the dark” and the music video features a classic Steps dance routine with Vogue-esque hand movements, body rolling and plenty of green screen.
Faye, Claire, H, Lee and Lisa all make a grand entrance in the futuristic clip before breaking out into the kind of dance routine only they could pull off. The video has a futuristic theme with the girls wearing gold metal lingerie and red ensembles. The song is written by ABBA’s Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus
Their upcoming album “Tears On A Dancefloor” is their first album of original material since 2000 and is slated for release today on April 21. They will be celebrating their twentieth anniversary with a 15-date tour in November and December in the UK, which will supported by the Vengaboys. Steps have fourteen consecutive top 5 singles to their name and have sold over 20 million records.
Faye said the new album is “all about getting people back on the dance floor”, revealing there are no ballads on the collection. “We did take reference from previous records,” she added. “I’d say the music is along the lines of Deeper Shade Of Blue and that sort of ilk. Maybe a bit more dance-y, actually. There aren’t any ballads on this album. We think we know what the fans want.”
