Tomorrow is again a new edition of Miss Travestie Belgian with five candidates competing for the crown and title of last year’s winner. To remind you how it went last year we had send Lola McQueen as our own reporter to the event. Like always she gave her honest opinion and view on what happened on stage. Here is her review:
“Hello readers, Pink In Our Lives asked me to write an article about Miss Travestie Belgium 2016! It was really a pleasure to write my honest opinion about this contest! Miss Travestie Belgium is the biggest contest for dragqueens/showqueens in Belgium! When you go to this election, you should has been seen by everyone! And after my great look 2 years ago I wanted to do just the same thing and when the great icon David Bowie has passed away I just found my look for that night! Wigs went ordered, my dress was ready and the make-up was put on! Everything was ready for a great night at Salon Mantovani in Oudenaarde!
Les Folles De Gand was ready to guide us to our table, the champagne was cold and we were ready for the show! It was very difficult to say who had the biggest chance to win this year, because the performance level of the candidates were very equal. Nobody stood out immediately at the press conference or at all the presences that the candidates gave at many different gay bars. The 5 candidates were Dina Delvaux, Patricia Spotlight, Daisy D-Zire, Lady Gwen & Varvara Avenir!
The Show was started with the “Show Yourself Catwalk” and was opened by the youngest candidate of the night! Dina Delvaux, she was just 18 and she did an amazing job with a beautiful classy white dress. All the other candidates were wearing amazing dresses!!! We saw a Greek goddess (Daisy D-Zire) and a beautiful version of a peacock (Lady Gwen) The style and the high hopes of the evening was immediately shown and it was gonna be spectaculair.
When we saw all the candidates, Miss Michelle the organizer of the evening and our host of the night presented us with the jury; Sergio (a singer from the group Touch of Joy), together with Wendy Van Wanten (singer), Dirk Vervoort (Designer), Skelte Willems ( Mister Gay Flanders 2015) and Dany Boa & Dille (2 showqueens).
In the meantime the candidates were preparing them for the first act and it was outstanding again! Every year I’m thinking how can they do better than last year but I saw again some spectacular acts!!! Dina Delvaux brought a great cheerleading acts with some spectacular tricks! Patricia Spotlight was showing herself like we know her, just with a good party-mood song! Daisy D-Zire brought a great Belgian mix and the whole crowd was singing with her!!! Lady Gwen brought one of my idols Charlotte Pirelli (known from Eurovision Song Contest with Take me to your heaven & Hero) and Varvara was doing a nice Latin song!
With their first Free Act the queens didn’t disappoint us and kept the high-quality from their first Catwalk Run, but Dina Delvaux stood out this time! The candidates got 30 seconds time to introduce themselves and that left me a bit hungry for more. Saying very short your name, telling your age and wishing the other queens good luck is not showing who you are or what you stood for. Lady Gwen was with the presentation one of the best candidates. I liked how she just talked to the audience if she was talking with you in person!
When the candidates change their outfits for the swimsuit runway Miss Travestie Belgium 2015 Luna Sylver was performing her winning act to the audience and then one of the most special moments of the night the swimsuit/underwear runway, where people are always confused how we tuck everything away. ;o) The most beautiful outfit was in my eyes the one of Daisy D-Zire, inspired on the Victoria Secret Football outfit! I love it when people just want do it different like usual. Everyone did it in his own style like it should be!
After the swimwear runway was it time for the second act of the night with the theme “Belgium”. All the artist had to show something Belgian. It was something different, it’s difficult for me to describe how I felt about this theme! Because some candidates brought great acts and other candidates were like not good enough or made the wrong choice! I always have respect for people who can sing live but this was not a good way to show that you can sing live. The sound was not good, even the song was strange for Miss Travestie Belgium and I still have a mixed feeling about a mix with Natalia & Kate Ryan. I didn’t see the link between those 2 great artists! But Dina brought a great nineties medley, Daisy D-Zire a great Belle Perez medley, but had some unfortunate trouble with her outfit. Just bad luck, because her performance was outstanding and Lady Gwen brought a great act from Vaya Con Dios! I loved these 3 acts from the Belgian theme!
Then came the 3rd and final act with this all the candidates had to give everything they got and some acts didn’t fit the bill or were even worse than the acts before. Dina Delvaux brought a superb act with Beyonce’s song Who Run the World and she did rule the stage!!! Patricia Spotlight did a Tina Turner and I was shocked! I think you can’t do a Tina Turner song if you don’t have her energy & moves (I feel sorry to say it, but it’s my honest opinion) and Daisy D-Zire’s energy was also a little bit gone! I can completely understand her, because she had a lot of troubles with her outfits, but if you go back to the front of the stage, don’t forget you have always audience that are still watching you and just keep on smiling! Maybe you could think that you don’t have the chance to win, but most times people like it when you smashed the stage after everything went wrong! We know you’re all human, but after all I liked it what you bring on the stage! Lady Gwen brought a great Helena Paparizou medley, but it was not strong enough after her Vaya Con Dios and Varvara was on the same line! Good but not good enough, but I enjoyed how to see the candidates bring their acts with a lot of passion!
After there was a half hour break where the judges could deliberate and after that the crowing for the new Miss Travestie Belgian 2016 was there: 2de runner up: Daisy D-Zire, 1st Runner-up Lady Gwen and Miss Travestie Belgium 2016: Dina Delvaux!
My own top 3 was just like this! Dina Delvaux deserved the title! She was strong & brought some amazing things!!!”
After almost a year that Dina Delvaux is Miss Travestie Belgium she still didn’t disappoint us. We’ve seen different acts on different stages and she still enjoys it, whenever she’s on the stage!!! CONGRATULATIONS again on behalf of Pink In Our Lives and we are curious who is going to snatch the crown Saturday night. We know the 5 candidates Mystique Royale, Mira Rubia, Starina, Jinky Bling and Miss Stephany will take out all the stops to bring us glitter, glamour, show and entertainment. Half of the Belgian Showqueen world will be there in amazing outfits, so we look forward to it. May the best Queen win tomorrow!!!
