“13 Reasons Why” actor Miles Heizer stars in gay military camp Netflix drama “Boots”

Strap in, as your next big gay binge watch is arriving on Netflix very soon. “BOOTS”, a military comedy drama starring “13 Reasons Why” star Miles Heizer, finally has a release date and first-look images.

The new series, featuring eight hour-long episodes, is based on The Pink Marine, a memoir by gay former US Marine, Greg Cope White. Set in the 1990s, when being gay was still illegal in the US Marine Corps, BOOTS follows Miles Heizer as Cameron Cope, a lost and closeted youth launched into the brutal world of the military recruit training camp. It’s a coming-of-age tale, and along the way, Cameron forges bonds with other recruits, including Ray McAffey (The Thing About Harry actor Liam Oh), his “ride or die” best friend and son of a strict, decorated Marine father.

“Together, this ensemble navigates the literal and metaphorical landmines of boot camp, forging unlikely bonds and discovering their true selves in an environment designed to push them to their limits,” reads an official Netflix description.“With sharp wit and plenty of heart, BOOTS is about friendship, resilience, and finding your place in the world – even when that world seems determined to keep you in line or leave you behind.”

Bates Motel and Up in the Air star Vera Farmiga plays Cameron’s “narcissistic” mother Barbara, who “becomes unmoored” when her son leaves home. The cast also includes Vampire Academy star Max Parker as the military camp’s “haunted” Sgt. Sullivan who sees himself in the young Cameron. Kieron Moore (Masters of the Air), Dominic Goodman (He’s All That), Brandon Tyler Moore (English Teacher), Nicholas Logan (Dope Sick), Rico Paris (Zola), Blake Burt (Geostorm) and Angus O’Brien (Hightown) also star.

BOOTS is out on Netflix on 9 October.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum about the show, Heizer said: “There really isn’t another show like BOOTS. It’s very funny, uplifting, and has a particularly great soundtrack. You’ll laugh, you’ll cheer, and… I’m sorry, but you’ll probably cry as well.”
