On Thursday March 05th 2020 for the third time a Classic Meets Fetish concert is organized as part of the Darklands 2020 (Leather Pride) programm.
Once again with pleasure they can offer you this exceptional event and gathering in one of the most spectacular concert venues of Antwerp city : AMUZ (www.amuz.be ) The fetish part is only that leather and fetish lovers come together to enjoy a great night of classical music. It has done successfully in Berlin a few times and in Antwerp this will be the third year in a row.
As it is a good tradition, this year’s proceeds also will be used to support some charity initiatives. This year in particular, they focus on “Het opvanguis/Le Refuge Brussels “ (www.refugeopvanghuis.be ). “Le Refuge” offers a shelter to LGBTQ youngsters, who have to leave their homes/families because they are not accepted or, even worse, feel unsafe because of sexual and/or gender identity.
“Classic meets Fetish” are very grateful to all the top professional musicians, who do perform free of charge to support this great event.

Synopsis: “In the Baroque age, music reflected the hierarchy of society: absolute monarchs ruled over their subjects with undisputed power, and even in music there is a strict and clear law of top vs. bottom. The soloists in the concert and the heroes on the opera stage are attributed with the highest voices. Bad and weak men sing tenor – but the winners sing at least alto or rather soprano. To make mature men reach these highest pitches, boys in Italy were castrated early on. Without going through puberty, they kept their high children’s voice in an otherwise male body. The audience was enchanted. Because the fetish of those times clearly was the Artificial. The more unnatural in all splendor, the better.
Although no boys are castrated anymore today, men are once again singing this exciting repertoire. They use a special vocal technique, their head voice, and fascinate an audience that in times of transsexuality and gender justice seems very curious about such border crossings. Philipp Mathmann is gifted with a particularly high voice, which currently opens up to him the great opera stages of the world. At AMUZ he interprets together with the ensemble FETISH BAROQUE the great hits of the castrati, from Handel to Vivaldi. And in the first part, soloists of Fetish meets Classic perform highlights of the classical repertoire from Mozart and Mendelssohn to Rachmaninoff with a dreamy introduction of Casals’ cello song of the birds combined with Bach. “
PINK IN OUR LIVES was there last year and we can say it was amazing, beautiful and a wonderful experience. Even when you are not into classic music it will give you goosebumps and a special feeling. The venue is amazing and because of all these great performers you will be mesmerized.
