Tonight will be giving the Golden Globes again and it is the 75th time this year!!! A few LGBT series and films are nominated and one of them is the already praised movie “Call Me By Your Name”. Time for us to watch the movie and to let you know our opinion. A wonderful movie and who else than one of our reporters Christiaan could tell you in mesmerizing words if it should deserve this award.
“Last night I’ve watched the movie “Call me by your name…” Based on the book with the same title by André Aciman.
The story line, about a blooming secret (gay) romance/relationship between the 17 year old Elio and the 24 year American research assistant, Oliver.
The scenery sets around a 17th century beautiful house, at the Summer of ’83 in the North of Italy. What intrigues me the most is the way how the movie is shot. One has the feeling from a typical art house kind of movie, due to the 35 mm lens being used on the camera, and usage from a single frame. Creating an intimacy.
But the storyline and acting lifts it above the art house status.
Director Luca Guadagnino made a huge effort into finding these 2 actors (Armie Hammer & Timothée Chalamet), and they’re quality skills of acting. One can actually feel the pounding heartbeats, warm blood rushing under ones skin. While the romance between Elio and Oliver gets more shape in the storyline. The guys secretly holding hands, touching with their feet, teasing each other with kisses/lips, breathing in ones neck etc. But also reaching out in dialogues.
Compliments on the fabulous Soundtrack, made by Sufjan Stevens….portraying the whirlwind of emotions going on between Elio and Oliver. (By the way….Elio plays Bach on the piano…heavenly!)
Ravel, “Une Barque sur l’Ocean”and John Adams. Also the typical Italian 80-ies pop music.
Eventually Elio and Oliver fall in love and how. Leading us into a few very hot steaming bed scenes, with body shots! (Can we get a A-MEN on Armies CURVED bootie, holy smoke….PEACH!) For peach….ever seen anyone masturbate with a peach…I rest my case. Not forgetting to mention the kissing….judge for yourself.
The director chose to create a constant sexual tension (despite of a few drops of body fluids) there is no real-life action scenery.
On which I must say he succeeded very well. Not going to spill everything. The movie has a few emotional moments.
The chemistry and personal inner struggling between Oliver and Elio is very true. Haven’t we all been there once.
This movie “Call me by your name…”is being nominated for 3 Golden Globes and other awards. Well deserved! I even dare to say go for the Oscar. For everybody who hasn’t seen it, go see at the cinema. You will not be disappointed”.
