Showqueen Awards 2018 review!!! #PinkInOurLives

This Sunday will be the fourth edition presented by leading lady of Les Filles De Malines Miss Selina Pearl. Who will take the crown and which other categories take the SQA 2019 Award home. We will know this Sunday the 28^th of April. Last year we got the proud honor to take home The LGBTI Publicity Award for Pink In Our Lives. This year we can’t compete, because last year’s winners will never be nominated the next year in their own category. But we are still present to cover the event and to support all the ladies and nominees.

But how was last year’s event?? Here is a reminder how our own ShowQueen reporter Christiaan experienced that evening and read his report like always in his own fabulous words:

“After the first year 2016 from La Tash, she was firmly followed up in 2017 by Miss Star. Who of the Queens will dignify with these ladies worthy enough, and above all who going is to wear the title “Showqueen of the year 2018”? Strong feet that can wear the Louboutins honeys!

Showqueen loving Flanders and also the Netherlands, were present at the Bau-house (Sint Niklaas- B) for the start of this triumphant evening at the 29^th of April. This year the Organization had also launched a new Award. The Award for best dressed male or female! The designers had literally worked night and day for their clients. Yaaards  and yards of expensive fabrics passed my all-seeing eye!

Diversity celebrated this year at the election! Yes darlings, aiming for the best and reaching for the Stars, piling it UP. Every inch of the stage being fully used, and the comment “out of the box” got a new meaning.
Acrobatic elements, Hooverboards, on screen projections, rotating stage elements, sexy dancers… (that is not saying something new, but they are also increasingly becoming more muscular and sexier with the blink of an eye!)  Even a real life camel walked into the hall. Seriously!

The opening from the evening started off with Gregorian chanting, and the Italian Ave Maria by our Belting Queen Sally Monella. Displaying on stage Selina Pearl hanging at the cross, dressed like the Virgin Marie. In a blink of an eye La Tash and Star were driven in, on real-life crosses, pinned down.
And as it were, launched on the stage! (Well from my view it went so fast!) Goosebumps! (Followed by the competitors.) I am sure the Vatican has an opinion about this, but trust me no Queen got hurt during this act.
After the opening act by Selina Pearl with Code Black, on the tunes from “This is me…” the Showqueen Awards were about to get Started! Ladies, let the Battle begin! And DON’T fuck it up!

To review the complete evening is IMPOSSIBLE.
So here a small overview with our personal highlights!

Skay Hentay, one of the youngest of Queens from the House of Maskara.
She wanted to give a message to the world, a statement! Hope, Peace.
La Hentay With her dancers on stage wearing a huge pink wig, Holocaust black and white striped outfits, Pink triangles, the scenery was so grim. Projections on the screens sideways from the stage, loud noises, marches against gays, holocaust clips, Islamic States etc.  The last shot, capturing Skai her eyes, with bleeding tears! The music “Zombie” by the Cranberries, added to this act a sinister and dark emotion.
Within a split second, the holocaust outfit changed into a Golden arms and zebra print/sequenced bustier, with black and white pants, later on also they went off.
While taking the audience to a higher “positive” level, with Lady Gaga’s acoustic “Born this way…” and ending it into a True dance-athon with “I am beautiful..” by Miss Aguilera! Loud applauding and cheering by the audience!!!

Ivana, took for her Look–a–like act, not a singer!!!
This would be too easy, to come up with. But creativity triumphed into her Showqueen brains. Let’s do a cartoon figure! Yaaasss! None other than Mystique from the X-Men!
Hell had no fear for this Blue Faced and body, ginger haired Queen of Evil.
To transform yourself into this mutant mistress of darkness and personality, asks for a lot of confidence. Well if you know Ivana…..need I say more. 😛 “Womans got the Strength/Power!…” With her muscular 4 dancers she gave the Audience, a style not much seen here in Belgium. A few can compete with Ivana!
This is International Star Quality honeys, hard working and again, dare!
Out of the box! Certainly a audience favorite for sure, while judging the LOUD applause!

The Showqueen Awards crossed the national borders, with the Dutch entry by Abby OMG. In a silver ruffled poncho, HUGE afro hairdo semi Miss Ross, she brought us a homage to the Latin singer Celia Cruz. Many dance and Latin uplifting music, and especially the sassy charisma from La OMG.
After a small onstage wig transformation, show us that “lavender styled  blondes” have more FUNN! The poncho replaced by the little sexy dress and a onstage dancer. The best gadget forevaaaah. A sexy dancer, that knows the moves! Ending her act with a  Deathly Death Drop, KILLING it!

The former Miss Dragqueen de Panne Miss Thalia, is a Diva who’s not scared of showing her moves at this competition. Needles to say, She IS the Celine Dion of this moment! Her act on the tunes of “Show must go on…”surrounded by her dancers with burning chandeliers while wearing black cloaks, was EPIC. La Thalia even so spicing it UP with a phenomenal collar. Turning the hall into a real Cesar’s Palace from Vegas, That’s party time within a  fraction of a second. “River Deep, mountain High …” so Tina Turner but again La Dion is in the house! Shaking her hips, to heathen up her act even more, in that little red dress! That’s how to add ENERGY darlings!! Fist UP, hail La Dion!

Mystique Royale had the painful ordeal to burn her hand one week before the competition!  To take off the “heat” she transformed herself, into the doomed Queen Cleopatra, while being carried on the back of a real life camel! The beautiful animal had no idea what was happening, but gave a extra boost of confidence to the wonderful act. “Frozen…”by Madonna zoomed around us….that song always a has a calming hummm…you know. Back to the act! On stage portraying the scenery of dark tomb and La Royal dancing the night away with veils ( NOT SALOME honeys!!!) and Egyptian wings. On the tunes of Sertab “Every way that I can..”, serving her audience sexy body language, with her 4 dancers . If this would have happened, in the real life from Cleopatra, she would have not been bitten by the snake for sure. A beautiful performance.

As it goes, let us safe the best for last….!
Miss Farah Night, for many years she is a well know Queen embarking the national and international stages from this planet!  You’ve might have read in my reviews, seeing a NEW Farah after visiting a show or club. Forget it! No…..“TONIGHT I’VE SEEN A NEW FARAH!!!” 😛 😛 😛

Yaaasss Queen. La Night captured into a white lighted transparent, Pandora’s box, entering the hall on the catching tunes “Vogue “from the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna. In a semi futuristic upgrade, anno 2018!
When Farah takes her steps out of the box, we see a white silvery skintight outfit, with tons of sequences and sharp spikes. Not forgetting to mention, the French frou frou hairdo, and blitzing cap! Then the Tour de Farah, takes off.
Climaxes piling up and up, surrounded by sexy dancers in much revealing transparent cat suits.  Usage of laser elements, a hooverboard….while another person almost breaks it’s neck on it, Farah has her own choreography.
Fireworks bursting out of her shoulder pads as the song takes a new vibe, in up-tempo beat. The last extract for this act are light elemented fairy wings, climaxing to the last and FINAL Death Drop! Respect Lorenzo De Leeuw for building UP this choreo, with your team! Farah-Fabulous!
A FULL audience rising UP from their chairs, screeching Farah and clapping loudly. Would she be our NEW Showqueen of the Year 2018?

To keep the energy HIGH, the last SHOUT out was for “Mother” Star!
A performance for HER people, HER audience!
Seated on a real life throne coming down from the ceiling, in a green/white striped outfit, green wig, and laser beams bursting out of her triumphant piercing Tiara, like venom bullets! Green lighted scepters, rowing with them in her own Star world, very much Madonna on the tunes of “Iconic”. Treating her dancers, as being mute servants! Star-tastic! Star gave us a last statuesque blast for the past, and for the future! Now we all know AGAIN, why she will be Showqueen 2017, for LIFE!

In the weeks ahead to the competition a SMS voting was held on important LGTBQ issues, organizations, venues and people.
Best Gay Event – Drags on Tuesday at Que Pasa.
Favorite Showqueen group – The Shining Diva’s.
Best LGTB Organization – Mister Gay Belgium.
Best dressed Award – Miss Vanessa Van Cartier.
LGTB Publicity Award  – Pink In Our Lives. (Soooooo PROUD!!!!)
Favorite Showtempel – Que Pasa.
Personality Queen – Zsa Zsa Lamor.
Personality King – Felipe Que Pasa.
Golden Pearl Lifetime achievement Award – Daniella De Malines.

After a LONG deliberation, around midnight the final results from the jury was presented to the audience and Queens!

Best Make-up: Ivana.
Best costume; Farah Night.
Best choreography; Ivana.
Audience favorite; Skay Hentay.
Best Newcomer; Abby OMG.
Best look-a-like; Ivana.
Best comical performance; Ivana.
Best free act/performance; Farah Night.

With a VERY loud applauding and cheering the new Showqueen was announced. “SHOWQUEEN 2018 is Miss FARAH NIGHT.”

PINK IN OUR LIVES wished Miss Farah Night, a wonderful year ahead, congratulations with achieving this victorious triumph and above SHINE! You deserve it darling after working so hard all these years!

Our last shout out goes to all the followers and friends that made it possible for us, Pink In Our Lives to take home the LGTB Publicity Award.
