Time to show and present themselves why they should be named as Mister Gay Belgium 2018 at the Finale Show at 2nd of June in Antwerp. Time for PINK IN OUR LIVES to have all candidates one on one in our spotlight and show you who they really are. Get surprised, intrigued and excited. The second candidate is Josip Gallet!!!
Thanks already to photographers Marc Drofmans, Tom Vaes, Marc Cuvelier, Kevin Wuyts, Karin Vermeiren, Emmanuel Deprijckere and René Emmerink for the great pictures of all the candidates and www.welovemisses.be for the videos in this article.
Josip is 24 years old and living in Oosterzele (East-Flanders). He is a metal worker at Volvo Trucks. He came out of the closet in 2012 and he wants to make his project about “discrimination and prejudice” known to the public.
How did u find about this election and what does Mister Gay Belgium for you?
“I learned about the election by social media and the many flyers. Mister Belgium means for me an organization that will put our LGBT community in the picture with an gay ambassador. Here isn’t only the looks important, but mostly the message and theme of the candidate. Because of certain aspects socially within and outside the LGBT community are still not accepted, we still definitely need an ambassador like this”.
What does your topic/Campaign stands for and how will u bring your message known to the outside world?
“My campaign stands for taking away the discrimination based on looks, especially about the ideal image of beauty and the prejudices against looking different than that ideal image. Everybody need to be themselves and be able to express themselves freely.
I would like to do this with a blog where everybody can tell their stories and letting other people take courage out of it and letting them know they are not alone or the only one with this feeling.
Next to it I would encourage the media to show the world a more realistic image of our LGBT community and not only the same pictures and videos where everybody has the perfect size of measurements”.
To whom did you do your first coming out and how?
“To my sister, who is the closest to my heart. At the first following family gathering always is the typical annual question for the bachelors, “And when will a girlfriend come along?” Where my sister immediately answered for me: “It probably will be more a boyfriend”. #honesty #redcheeks
What advice would you give to young gays that did not come out of the closet yet?
“Don’t hesitate, just do it! real friends will never let you fall or desert you. In the meantime it is more accepted in society these days to not postpone it any longer”.
Who is your superhero at the moment and why?
“My parents. They have always supported me, even at the difficult moments. Besides the bullying, staring and the shamings, they were always the ones I could fall back on. This made me the person, who I am today. Superman can’t even reach that far to accomplish that for me”.
How do u feel that there still countries like Indonesia, where it is illegal to kiss somebody of the same-sex, let alone be gay?
“I can’t understand this, everybody has to be themselves no matter what culture, country, religion, etc. Love is something that just happens. It can’t be or may not be controlled or stopped. Still I am optimistic for the future, more and more countries around the world accept homosexuality”.
